Hiring for Admissions Marketing Specialist

Position Summary

The Admissions Marketing Specialist works as a member of the Marketing and Communications team in support of digital and traditional marketing and communication strategies for academic programs. Responsibilities include working with the Director of Marketing for Graduate Programs and the Marketing and Communications leadership team to execute integrated marketing strategies that inform and educate various audiences from prospective and current students to faculty/staff and alumni. The Admissions Marketing Specialist ensures that all print and digital communications are optimized for key conversions and follow rules of grammar, visual design and quality assurance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Edits and writes content for enrollment funnel, which includes website pages, landing pages, website blog/news posts, display ads, text ads, social media, interactive applications, widgets, emails, banner ads and print enrollment collater, in “Smaller. Smarter.” brand voice.

Works with a content management system to build and maintain website content

Works in a customer relationship management system to build forms and set up communication tracks

Uses campaign analytics, from both digital advertising platforms and internal databases, to create structured reporting showing campaign successes and areas of improvement

Develops new strategies, based on reporting, to improve campaigns and present those strategies to the marketing teams

Works with internal clients to determine their needs, and then collaborates with members of the marketing teams to create solutions

Analyzes and implements ongoing search engine optimization for identified programs

Other duties as assigned by Director of Marketing for Graduate Programs

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in advertising, communications, marketing or a related field

Successful completion of the Google Analytics certification

Successful completion of the Google Adwords certification


At least 2 years of experience in marketing, with demonstrated paid search advertising and integrated campaign experience

At least 2 years of website analytics and search optimization for web content

Demonstrated experience with multiple content management systems

Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with team members

Demonstrated ability to maintain positive client relationships

Must have expert written, verbal, analytical and organizational skills

Experience with blog and news writing for the web and editing for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy

Experience executing integrated email, website, PPC conversion-based marketing campaigns

Experience translating brand strategies in to engaging and meaningful copy

Write for multiple print and digital channels, including postcards, video, website pages, landing pages, website blog/news section, display ads, text ads, social media, interactive applications, widgets, emails, banner ads, search engine, user interfaces and presentation collateral

Experience as part of interdisciplinary teams, including developers, visual designers and writers

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

SEO/SEM guidelines and best practices, emphasis on researching and staying up-to-date for ongoing changes

Knowledge of keyword optimization, search positioning and traffic visibility to maximize brand message to appropriate audiences

Proven strength contributing to the creative process and providing strategic solutions

Advanced copywriting knowledge, including the ability to meet deadlines, strong attention to detail and web writing experience with measurable results

Strong understanding of website technology, social and email marketing including SEO, SEM and social media platforms

Able to collaborate with marketing teams, creative teams and clients

Experience in managing a workload including multiple projects and production schedules required

Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to consistently meet deadlines while maintaining a high attention for details

Ability to plan, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks

Ability to explain technical aspects of system to those whom have limited technical knowledge

Ability to work individually and within a team environment

Ability to measure, test and analyze competitor efforts to determine advantageous marketing campaign strategies

Ability to follow internal branding and style guidelines to the letter
